The tournament was held on April, 7 2018 and attracted 96 players. Attendees came from Illinois (67 players), Wisconsin (9), Indiana (9), Minnesota (5), Iowa (3) and Michigan (2). Only 1 player from IL didn’t show up. 2 weeks before the tournament date, it looked like this tournament ‘for sure’ was not going to fill up as players were waiting until last week to sign up. In the end, there were over 30 more players who either entered the tournament and didn’t choose the event for some reason, or completed registration, paid for it and withdrew. There were 8 players who requested and got refunds before the refund deadline.
Setup
This time we only got 30 minutes to setup on Friday night but thanks to volunteers at our club we managed to do it in about 1 hour. Those volunteers were: Krzysztof Fudala, David Soltwisch, Manikandan, Uma and Narayan Nagarathnam, John and Jim Brandt, Michael Curry. I apologize if I missed someone.
Tournament
We started on time at 9 am and were finished with the morning events about 2:15 – a bit late. The afternoon events and finished on around 8:30 pm.
Throughout the day, we had issues with sunlight streaming into the gym because the custom sized card board sheets that I collected over the last few years were tossed out or moved by someone when they were cleaning up storage room where we store our equipment. We had to quickly improvise, but even that wasn’t blocking the sunlight completely. I apologize for that but we didn’t discover that sheets were missing until Friday night.
Take Down
Take down started around 7 as many matches in the afternoon event were finished early permitting our crew of volunteers to start taking down tables and moving barriers. The volunteers in this phase were: David Soltwisch, Manikandan, Uma and Narayan Nagarathnam, John and Jim Brandt, Dylan Garland, Tomasz Szacilowski and Varad Cancheepuram. I would like to thank all of you for helping with this effort. We were out of the venue by 8:45 pm.
