A record 106 players signed up for the 2015 Aurora Summer Open tournament held on June 20, 2105 and we only had 2 no shows. In the last 3 years of running this tournament the number of attendees ranged from 75 to 84. The schedule was really packed because we advanced 2 players from each of the 3 events that had 8 or 12 participants and larger events had also many single elimination round matches. We started most events on time with the exception of the last round of events starting at 6 pm. The last match ended at 8:45.
Th extra 10 barriers donated by our sponsor Newgy, made the playing area more uniform looking – almost as in the high class tournament.
The 2 umpire tables made the job of umpiring more comfortable with extra space provided by the table for holding the score board and writing the scores neatly.
The new high quality plastic Nittaku balls proved to be much more durable and players praised their characteristics which they claimed were very close to old celluloid balls. We used up almost all 48 balls sponsored by Paddle Palace.
I would like to thank the following individuals for making this tournament a success. Setup on Friday night was accomplished with the help of Micheal Curry, Joanna Korylczuk, Srinivasamurthy Padyala. We started around 7:30 and finished about 10:15.
Jim Brandt helped with player checkin and setup of control desk. Tournament operations and cleanup afterwards were handled by Evelyn Wisniewski, Zachary Moy, Andrew Moy and Jacek Wisniewski. We started cleanup around 8:30 and were out of the venue about 10:20.
