The 2015 edition of the Aurora Fall Open was held on Sunday, August 30 and attracted 96 players. Everyone who signed up showed up to the delight of all players. Most players came from Illinois, but a group of 13 came from out of state – WI (6), IN (3), and 1 each from IA, MO, OK and even NC.

I would like to thank our sponsor – XuShaofa Sports for sponsoring our balls. They stood up to harsh play much better than some other brands that we used in our past tournaments this year.

Tournament setup took 4 hours with thanks to Michael Curry and Matthew Lorenc. We also got help from Jim and John Brandt who performed the final setup tasks: placing sun blocking cardboard in the windows upstairs, replacing broken net, bringing and unpacking trophies and setting up our audio system.

Take down took 1.5 hours with a lot of help from Cecilia Navata.

Smooth operation of the tournament can be credited to:

  • David Marrone our referee, who despite a tiring cough and cold traveled here from Urbana and helped resolve tricky rules questions and reviewed final results.
  • Cecilia Navata who ran our control desk (check-in, data entry, dispatch of groups to their tables)
  • Andrew Moy our umpire who officiated several contentious matches and performed data entry

I would to thank all above individuals for their great contribution to the success of this tournament.

Action shots

Several hundred action shots were taken and a handful of them were worthy publishing.  They will be published to Picassa once they are selected in the upcoming days.

I hope that a good time was had by all players.  If you had a good experience at our tournament please tell others so we can have more events like this.  I am planning a 4 star tournament – 2016 Butterfly Aurora Cup – in mid January 2016 so be on the lookout for announcements about this tournament.  Thank you again for participating.
